Our founder, JD Smith, grew up witnessing firsthand the devastating impact of the Buffalo Creek flood, where many of his father’s family members were lost. That tragedy shaped not only his life, but also his determination to help others rebuild after loss. Together with his father, JD went down into the community in the aftermath to assist in the recovery efforts, a defining experience that still fuels his commitment today.

With decades of expertise in construction, restoration, and project management, JD has become known for his ability to lead with precision, mobilize trusted crews, and get results when it matters most.

His co-founder, Violet Chipps, carries that same dedication forward. With a background in finance, operations, and community leadership, Violet brings organization, communication, and a people-first approach to every project. She ensures that clients not only see progress in their properties but also feel supported every step of the way.

Together, JD and Violet built Sunrise to be more than just a company. It’s a family-driven mission: to honor the past by helping property owners and communities face challenges with strength, compassion, and confidence.
